News from Room 2 Kea St

Kia ora

Room 2 is made up of seven students (teenagers, one of which is non-verbal) with moderate to high needs. They love to talk, sing, eat, listen to music, read and play. Room 2 has a diverse programme which consists of classroom based activities and extracurricular activities in the community. This involves going to the local library, aquatic centre (swimming lessons), sailing, and fitness (redwoods). Our focus for this term is based around Ko wai au (all about me).

Every odd week we get to go sailing and experience the power of the wind. Once a week we join up with Room 1A and Kaitao for fitness, sometimes this involves a trip to the Redwoods where the students walk/run up nursery road collecting cards from the adults at the top and returning them to adults at the bottom. We visit the library once a week which enables the students to interact with the public as part of their integration into the community. Swimming also takes place once a week and is based around the students needs. I.e. diving, treading water and other water safety essentials.
