We have 4 very high needs students & 2 high needs ranging in age from 7 to 16: 4 boys: Te Manu, Diego, Paora and Jakob; and 2 girls: Jordan and Litia
Our programme is based around the NZ Primary School Curriculum, Te Whariki, the Key Competencies Pathway & CRSSAC with adaptations to suit the students’ levels. Each student has an IEP which is reviewed twice a year in consultation with parents/caregivers and therapists.
We have input and programmes from a Physiotherapist, a Mobility & Orientation Therapist, a Speech Language Therapist and a Occupational Therapist along with support from Vision Resource Teachers. We also have weekly dance therapy as well as Riding for Development weekly.
We have a mobility van so we participate in community activities and integration each week as well as trips related to our current topics. The 2017 year is based around the theme of Our Place, Our Legends. In term 1 we are focusing on The Legend of the Mountains.
The students enjoy trips to Pak n Save, the Warehouse, the lake and the $2 Shop on a regular basis as well as our local library. We also travel to Kea St School in Rotorua for whole school assemblies three times per term.
Some students enjoy some integration with Mountview School for assemblies, fitness, karakia, sport and classroom work.
