Sunset Primary Satellite Class

Room 9

Kia ora koutou,

Ko Tina Rewi-McRoy toku ingoa.  I am the Kaiako at the Satellite Class located at Sunset Primary School on Sunset Road. Louise Keenan, Kim Sayer and Wendy Bawden are the amazing Support Staff.

Principal Niels Rasmussen (Matua Raz) is the amazing Principal at Sunset Primary School who always makes time for us.  We are lucky and privileged to be a part of such an incredible school.

We have five boys ranging from 5-10 years of age.  At every class break, our students integrate and play with the mainstream children.  We have a playground directly in front of the classroom.

All students have Individual Educational Plans that cater to their individual needs.  These Educational Plans have input from Parents/Caregivers/Whanau, Specialists and the Class Teacher.

Our specialists include a Physiotherapist – Chris Shoemack; Two Speech and Language Therapists – Jenna Ryan and Alysa Duda; Occupational Therapist – Brigid Hitchcock; Vision and Mobility Therapist – Michelle Bunce; Music Therapist Jono Breakwell and Kapa Haka Tutor – Aiden Taipeti.

We also perform at the Annual Maori Festival that is held at the Convention Centre.  This year we will also have our School Ball for students 12 years and over,

Students also participate in Riding for the Disabled (RDA), Mid-Island Gym Sports (MIGS) throughout the year.  We have a Sports Day every term as well as an Annual Cross-country.

School wide Assemblies occur three times a term at Base School.  Also Discos and special events.

Community facilities are widely used such as the Public Library, the Aquatic Centre, Polynesian Pools, and Museum, Redwoods, Parks and various shopping centres.
