Kea Room Term 1 2020

We have had a lovely start to our year and term. We have 3 students: Te Manu, Jakob and Tamihana. Diego who was in our room for around 14 years has moved to Rotorua and is now at Kea St in room 4. Our teacher is away this term so Lisa has come back to teach the term. Our Teacher Aides are Robyn and Jan.

We all have IEPs based around our individual abilities and needs, our topic and goals set by our teacher, therapists and caregivers.

Our topic for 2020 is Our People, Our Place, Tangata Whenua, Whenuatanga. This term we are looking at Tangata Whenua, Belonging. We have started by making whanau trees with NZ native trees. We are making paper to use for this by recycling paper from our room.

We are doing Lunches in Schools this year so we are doing our own shopping and cooking for this. We have a budget and talk about what sort of things we want to cook, keeping it healthy.

We are swimming at the AC Baths and walking so we are learning about how to keep ourselves clean and healthy as well as fit.

We have had a recycling classroom for a long time so we follow the principles of recycling, reusing, replacing, reducing and recovery.
