Term 1 2019:
We are a class of mostly non-verbal children with high to very-high needs.  Our class currently consists of 3 boys and 3 girls. We have 2 Teacher Aids, as well as one Teacher, Jenn.  Every few weeks we also have a Release Teacher, Mike, come in to work with students.

Our class has a strong emphasis on communication through the use of Augmented and Alternative Communication (AAC) and encouragement to use oral language when able.  As the students are working below and within Level One of the New Zealand Curriculum we also use the Key Competencies Pathways, CRSSAC and Te Whariki (ECE Curriculum) documents to guide our learning.

Each of the students in our class will work one on one with staff at various times each day for their individualised programmes.  This is mainly done in the form of ‘box work’ where each student has a box of activities appropriate to their individual ability and guided by their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals.  We have specialists in Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language, Maori, Music and Arts also visiting our class regularly (weekly or fortnightly) this year.

Term 1 2018:
We spent some time looking at body parts and making Mr and Mrs Potato head creations.
We have also done some paintings using different textured brushes and applicators, with our teachers daughter to help us on her day off High School.
