Room 9 at Kaitao Middle School is a satellite class of Kea St Specialist School. We have 9 students at present, 2 new to the class this year. There is one classroom teacher, Cameron McKenzie and 2 teacher aides; Nina London-Rose and Gina Atkinson.
We follow the New Zealand School Curriculum and CRUSSAC, the special schools' curriculum. Each student has an Individual Education Programme, IEP, which all those involved in the students' education have input into and help to carry out. IEP meetings are held twice each year in March and September. Specialists who visit weekly are the Physiotherapist; Speech Language Therapist; Maori Tutor and a Music Tutor.
The students also attend weekly swimming lessons at the local pools, visit the public library, participate in daily mainstream fitness lessons and go on community outings.
