2017: Room 4:

Room 4 is a class at the Base School in Kea Street, which caters for very high needs students. There are six students in our class. The staff consists of a specialist teacher and three teacher aides.

  • Room 4 provides a specialist teaching programme based on Individual Education Plans.
  • The staff ratio is four staff to six students.
  • Communication needs are a priority in our classroom.
  • The classroom has two computers, a touch screen, a Smartboard and two iPads.
  • Student interests and individual needs are taken into account when planning the learning programme.
  • Our class programme is based on a multi-sensory approach to learning.
  • Students receive regular physiotherapy with a physiotherapist.
  • Students have access to Occupational, Speech and Orientation and Mobility therapy.
  • Music is a big part of our programme and we have two Music Specialist Staff who provide stimulating and highly motivating Music and Movement opportunities for our students.
  • Students participate in community activities e.g. library, Museum, Government Gardens, Tree Trust and places of interest.
  • Room 4 strives to reflect the school values of Respect, Independence, Community and Empowerment.
