Sunset Primary Satellite Class
Kia ora koutou,
Ko Tina Rewi-McRoy toku ingoa. I am the class teacher at Satellite Class at Sunset Primary School situated on Sunset Road. Kim Sayer is our full-time Teacher Aide.
We also have two part-time Support Staff. Louise Keenan is a Teacher Assistant who works Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am – 2.30pm. Wendy is with us on a Tuesday and Thursday 9-2.30pm.
Principal Niels Rasmussen (Matua Raz) makes a point of greeting our students every day. Sunset staff and student are very respectful and it is a privilege to be a part of an awesome school environment. The school is very inclusive.
We have six boys ranging from 5-8 years of age. The students are Casey-John Whare, Dean Ormsby, Kerry Truong, Hamiora Reihana, Souljah Jenkins-Hutana and Taimarino Pou. At every class break, the students integrate and play with the mainstream children.
All students have Individual Educational Plans that cater to their individual needs. These Educational Plans have input from Parents/Caregivers/Whanau, Specialists and the Class Teacher.
Our specialists include a Physiotherapist – Chris Shoemack; Speech and Language Therapist – Jenna Ryan; Occupational Therapist – Brigid Hitchcock; Vision and Mobility Therapist – Michelle Bunce; Music Therapist Jono Breakwell and Kapa Haka Tutor – Aiden Taipeti.
We also perform at the Annual Maori Festival that will be held at the Harvest Centre this year. This year we will also have a School Production as well as an Art Exhibition.
Students also participate in Riding for the Disabled (RDA), Mid-Island Gym Sports (MIGS) and/or Flip Out throughout the year. We have a Sports Day every term as well as an Annual Cross-country.
Community facilities are widely used such as the Public Library, the Aquatic Centre, Polynesian Pools, Flip Out, Rotorua Museum, Redwoods, Parks and various shopping centres.
