Our Room 5 class is at Kea Street Base. We currently have six students (4 boys and 2 girls) and 2 staff lead by Ron Thornton. Teacher Aides are Tracey Hawke and Lynne Kilgour.
Our students have High and very High need ages range from 13 to 17 at 1st January, 2017.
Our programme has input from a number of Specialists including Physiotherapist, Orientation and Mobility Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech/Language Therapist and access to Music tutors.
Room 5 has access to a school van so we love to get out to make the most of community facilities such as the Library, Polynesian Pools, playgrounds and shopping areas such as the Redwoods Centre. This year we hope to extend our skills at being able to be out of the classroom.
Students are working towards Level 1 of the N.Z. Primary Curriculum on individual programmes (guided by Te Whariki, the Key Competencies Pathway & CRSSAC) and designed through their I.E.P. in consultations held two times per year in March and September with parents/Caregivers and Specialists.
We are also working to build our group of students into a class unit.
Our school wide theme for this year is “Our Place, Our legends.”
